This course will cover the theory, policy, and practice underlying key legalized social movements, focusing on the last three decades. Students will scrutinize the old and new forms of racial discrimination in voting that continue to deny and abridge voting rights, including felony disenfranchisement, restrictions on voter registration and early voting, voter purges, polling places changes, strict voter photo identification laws, and manipulative redistricting, among many other election laws, policies, and practices that limit the ability of voters of color to freely exercise their right to vote.
